Private Gardens & Patio

Tucked in the heart of the beautiful Dorset countryside, we are fortunate to have our own diverse and thoughtfully designed gardens at Oakdene. Our outdoor spaces are much more than just visually appealing; they are safe, stimulating and fully accessible environments that offer residents a daily opportunity to connect with nature and enjoy the fresh air all year round.

The gardens are zoned to create pockets of peacefulness and activity, including lawns, walkways, a pond area, and spacious patios. Many of our residential rooms feature direct garden access, giving residents the freedom to head outdoors whenever they choose. With parasols available for shade and plenty of seating available across the gardens, everyone is welcome to relax, move around, or simply enjoy the sounds and sights of nature around them. Residents are also encouraged to personalise the area outside their patio doors to help turn the garden into a space that feels individually theirs.

Take Time Out to Enjoy Nature

All outdoor areas at Oakdene are fully secure and accessible to ensure the safety and comfort of every resident, from those who enjoy spontaneous strolls to those with mobility aids or in wheelchairs. Our main garden areas, pond and walkways are level and easy to navigate, with raised planters thoughtfully positioned to make gardening inclusive and enjoyable for everyone.

From the communal herb garden that is currently home to flourishing mint and parsley, to the birdfeeders and raised planters around, each area has charm and purpose. Herbs grown here are harvested and used in the kitchen, which adds further personal touches to meals and drinks. Whether it’s sitting quietly by the pond for afternoon tea or spending time in the shaded seating areas, residents can enjoy the gardens in both warm and cooler weather.

Outdoor Activities Galore

What makes our gardens truly unique is their variety and how they’re shaped by the people who use them. All activities, both indoors and out, are resident-led and tailored to individual interests and preferences. Whether a resident chooses to lead a gardening project or prefers to join in a quick round of balloon tennis, every voice is heard and every choice respected.

Weekly games and seasonal events are often hosted in the shared garden space between the buildings and become a vibrant community hub. Many families visit regularly to support events, and it’s not unusual to spot multiple generations relaxing under the parasols or joining in the fun. Residents also enjoy regular visits to a nearby garden centre, which is just a short 15-minute walk away, to choose their favourite plants and blooms.
