Bringing Residents’ Stories to Life Through Artwork

Our residents recently took part in a creative canvas painting project, each producing a deeply personal piece of art for us to display. From cherished memories of days out to beloved pets, their paintings now grace the walls of our home, celebrating individuality and self-expression.

In a heartwarming celebration of creativity and individuality, our residents recently enjoyed a canvas painting project that brought both colour and conversation into Oakdene The activity was designed to encourage self-expression through art, and the results have been nothing short of inspiring.

Each resident was invited to create their own canvas painting, drawing inspiration from memories, loved ones and personal passions. The project offered residents a chance to reconnect with treasured moments and express themselves in new and meaningful ways.

Ruby, for instance, painted a much-loved location she and her husband visited many times throughout their lives together. Her piece captures the essence of a love story that has stood the test of time. Linda found her inspiration from her loyal dog, Tinker, whose adorable face now welcomes visitors into the home. John also chose to paint his dog but also added his wife and daughter, which came out as a beautiful family portrait.

Some of our residents, such as June and Janet, decided to create more nature-themed pieces with a garden area and abstract themes. All of our residents truly let their creativity shine and it was wonderful for our team to see.

Once completed, we transformed our communal spaces into a gallery of personal stories and heartfelt expressions. These paintings are now a visual celebration of the memories, relationships and interests of our residents.

We’re proud to support our residents in expressing themselves and projects like this reflect the spirit of community and care that defines daily life here. To learn more about life at Oakdene Care Home, get in touch and book a tour. We would love to welcome you and your loved ones!
